Alan's first-prize winning performances at the 1997 Gaudeamus Interpreters' Competition featured a programme of some of the greatest contemporary guitar works, including Berio's"Sequenza XI", Elliott Carter's "Changes", "Kurze Schatten II" by Brian Ferneyhough, Tristan Murail's "Tellur" and "All in Twilight" by Toru Takemitsu. Since 1997 he has gone on to develop a contemporary repertoire spanning a broad stylistic spectrum, from minimalism to new complexity, and including works for solo guitar and solo electric guitar as well as works with live electronics and tape.
